Hello all. If you are an avid follower of this blog, you will no doubt have read part 1 & part 2 of my 'Examples of the Direct Approach in films' series of blog posts where I shared video clips of direct approach scenes from various films and tv shows.

It takes a lot of time and effort to research such scenes, but I'd now like to share yet more in a part 3. So let's get started...

Crazy Stupid Love (2008)

To start things off, you will remember that I previously shared an example of a direct approach in a bar from the movie 'Crazy Stupid Love'. Ryan Gosling's character Jacob, a handsome, confident womaniser, approaches Emma Stone's character Hannah (and her friend) but she feigns as though she's not interested in him or hooking up with him. Anyone watching this scene could be forgiven for thinking that Jacob had just been given the brush off, and that Hannah was not attracted to him, and Jacob gracefully exits after not managing to pull Hannah home from this initial approach.

However, later in the movie it is revealed that Hannah actually IS attracted to Jacob, and there is a scene where several weeks later she goes back to the bar to find Jacob, and she admits to him that she IS attracted to him and wants to take him home and bang him.

These two scenes are very true to life, because the fact is many women will initially pretend as though they're not attracted to you, only to later reveal they actually are. This is why you should not always take a woman's initial reaction at face value, and why you should persist and plant the seed in her mind, as you never know whether that woman will later seek you out to reveal her true intentions.

I will post both scenes here so you can watch how Hannah initially reacts to Jacob's approach vs how things later turn out.

Here is the initial approach scene...

Now here is how Hannah later reveals her TRUE intentions...

Before Sunrise (1995)

You may recall the direct approach scene on the train from the delightful movie, Before Sunrise. I'd like to add another example of being direct with women from the same film. This scene is about how you go about stating your specific romantic/sexual intentions to a girl while getting to know her. You see, the 'direct approach' isn't simply about being direct during your initial approach, it's a mindset and style of verbal communication that applies at all stages of a seduction and/or relationship.

Even though Jesse and Celine end up having a short-term fling/love affair, for just one night, there is a point where they are sat down on a boat and having 'the talk', where they define what this 'relationship' is, and whether it will go any further than just that one night. This is a very good example of how men and women can be very honest with each other about what they want from each other. It's also a great example of the fact that a short-term fling can sometimes have more honesty, romance and passion than a longer lasting relationship. In fact, the whole movie is an example of the sort of passionate short-term fling you could have while you're travelling.

Before Midnight (2013)

If you enjoyed watching 'Before Sunrise', you may know that this movie was later turned in a trilogy with two more follow up films being added to the series - 'Before Sunset' (2004) and 'Before Midnight' (2013). The trilogy follows what happens when Jesse and Celine meet up 9 years after their initial short-term fling and end up as long term lovers, living together and having kids etc.

Eventually their relationship goes stale and boring and they end up as the stereotypical 'bickering couple'. You could say that this trilogy is an illustration of the natural progression of long-term, monogamous relationships and how the initial lust and attraction eventually fizzle out and turns in routine, boredom and animosity.

Anyway, the following scene occurs right near the end of the film after Jesse and Celine have had a bit of an argument. They are sat in a restaurant and and Celine is sulking in a bad mood. Jesse then does a 'mock' direct approach on her in order to cheer her up, and although this scene is meant to sort of be a 'parody' of a direct approach, it is in fact a really excellent example of a direct approach in it's own right (albeit on a moody/angry woman), so I decided to post it here.

The Perfect Storm (2000)

There are 2 parts to this direct scene. The first scene is in a bar where a guy basically goes direct and invites a woman home. The women initially gives him some resistance/tests, to which he responds with his own comebacks. He doesn't get her home that night, and it would seem she isn't interested. Then in the second part she goes to wish him goodbye before he goes out to sea, and she hints that she might be interested in seeing him again later, suggesting she was initially pretending not to be interested in him (as a lot of women do).

Second direct scene.

48 Hrs (1982)

An excellent direct scene in a bar where Eddie Murphy's character Reggie Hammond invites a woman to a nearby hotel for sex literally within the first few sentences of approaching her. This is a great example of being verbally bold and to the point, and the part where Reggie removes the woman from another guy who was trying to chat her up is brilliant too. Please excuse the sound quality, by the way.

Face/Off (1997)

A short direct example on an aeroplane. And yes, he does get the tongue kiss with the woman (sorry it cuts out just before that, my bad editing...).

The Blues Brothers (1980)

A direct approach on a woman in a car at a petrol station (or gas station to you people from the USA). Dan Aykrod's character, Elwood, invites the woman to his show that night but she refuses, saying she's about to go on a date with a guy. He then tells her that if it doesn't work out with the date, she should come over to his motel later that night. This is a nifty little example of the sort of things you can do when you're direct. I mean, who cares if a girl is going on a date with another guy? That doesn't mean you still can't pursue her, or that she's not attracted to you. Persist anyway like the guy in this video clip!

Notice how the woman's demeanour sort of 'lights up' when he invites her to the motel...the way she turns to look at him, the coy little smirk she has on her face, her eyebrow flash, and the smile she has on her face as she drives away. This is a great example of the effect a direct approach has on women.

Out Of Sight (1998)

Ok, strictly this isn't a direct scene, but it's an example of a couple of indirect approaches in a bar - I thought I'd include this here as a lesson in how NOT to approach a woman. The first mistake these guys make is sitting at the bar 'eyeing up' her up, then putting her drink on their bill (before they'd even spoken to her...I mean, what chumpish behaviour!). Their next faux pas was to approach her and immediately start rambling on about their job, and other indirect shit.

She quickly brushes them off and they do the 'walk of shame' back to their friends. Can you see how boring the indirect approach is to women? Whereas the direct approach is much more exciting.

Oh, and as a nice bonus to this clip, you get to see Jennifer Lopez when she was in her prime :-)

And finally, a movie short that shows exactly why you should avoid using any kind of PUA techniques, tactics, routines, etc (sorry, I do not know the name of this clip, or indeed whether it's from a longer film). In this example, a guy approaches a girl in a bar and starts spouting his lame PUA techniques at her. She sees straight through it and calls him out on it, and tells him that had he simply been real and honest with her she'd have probably been interested in him and given him a chance, but because he used bullshit PUA material on her she 'shot him down' and lost all interest in him.

The lesson here, guys, is to always be direct with women and never use indirect/pua style 'game' ever again! Women are not stupid....they've heard all that lame PUA stuff a million times before (it's no longer an 'underground seduction community secret' any more, woman are aware of it)...and if you use it, women will call you out on it and make you feel very stupid indeed.

Be a real man and be direct with women instead. I think you'll get a good laugh out of this scene. As you can tell, I do not like PUAs or their bullshit techniques...
